Assignment 2

Configure your desktop so that it is easier for somebody with a Vision Impairment.

This is a screen shot of my desktop before i made any changes .

To do this I needed to right-click, click on view and then click large icons.

I decided to change the size of my icons to large, as it could help people with poor eye sight.

This is my desktop after I changed the icon size to large.

This is my desktop after I arranged the icons in whatever I wanted to place them.

Adding icons to the Quick Access Tool Bar

I clicked on the drop down arrow, just beside the “Quick-access toolbar”.

I would like to have more choices. I then must go down to more commands.

This box appears once you click more commands. I then clicked on new and clicked add. I done the same for paragraph, Styles… and Spelling and Grammar.

I would like to use a tool called magnifier.
This will make a certain area (you chose what area) magnify in size.

In order to access this you must go to:
1.All Programs
2.Accessories
3.Easy Access
4.Magnifier

This is the full screen view.

This is the lens view.

And this is the docked view.

In order to get to the narrator tool you must go to Programs, then accessories, then easy access and then narrator.

Once you have clicked narrator, the box in the bottom corner will appear. If you click voice settings you will then see this second box appear.

This is my word document with all my screen shots but with a blue backround and white text.

This is a desktop image with a higher resolution than normal. High resolution will make the screen look clearer, making it easier for somebody to read words or watch videos.

    Distinction

All of the changes that have been made to my desktop are to help the visually impaired.
First of all, changing where the icons are placed on the desktop can make it easier to see them due to the fact that they are spread out acros the screen.
Changing the size of the icons so that they are bigger can be extremely useful to the visually impaired. It will make the icons look clearer.

While on a Word Document it can be hard for somebody who is visually impaired to look up all of the different tools. It is useful if you add alot of the main tools onto the quick access tool bar. This will make it easier and save time.
The magnifier tool will allow you to zoom in on an area of your choice. It is handy if the writing is small or hard to understand.

The narrator tool is for people with extremely bad eye sight. It will sound the words out through the speakers, so somebody can listen instead of reading.
Also if you change the background colour to blue and change the text to white, some people find it easier to read.

The screen reader is a bit like the narrator tool but it is an addition software which doesnt come with the computer. Like the narrator tool, it reads aloud the words in a document throught the speakers.
It also reads aloud information within a dialog box unlike the narrator tool, making it slightly more useful.
