If your computer is lagging and slow there is many ways in which you can improve efficency.
Firstly, you should work on removing any spyware (also preventing viruses) from your computer. You can do this by installing a computer protection software e.g. norton computer security.
The reason for doing this is because if there is a virus on your computer it can corrupt your files, cause damage to your computer, slow down the speed of your internet/gaming and it can also take up a lot of room on your computer (the longer it is on your computer, the slower your computer can get)
You should now free up the disk space on your computer. The more free space you have on your hard disk the better the computer will preform.
You can do this by using the disk cleanup tool.
- Remove temporary Internet files.
- Delete downloaded program files
- Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Remove Windows temporary files.
- Delete optional Windows components that you don't use.
- Delete installed programs that you no longer use.
- Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.
Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files have been fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk as a file is opened (to piece it back together). The response time can be significantly longer.
Disk Defragmenter is a Windows application which can speed this up by placing each fragmented file into a seperate folder. This speeds up the amount of time needed to sort the file.
Now you should defect and repair (if any) disk errors.
In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to help the performance of your computer, you can check the files stored on your hard disk for any errors by running the Error Checking utility.
If there are any errors on your computer it can greatly decrease the speed because the error may be affecting your Graphics tablet etc.
You can fix errors by running the Error Checking utility as it will scan for problems/errors and attempt to fix them.
Also doing things like adding more RAM space or replacing a grahpics card with a new one could seriously improve speed and gaming experience.
